Friends of FANA News - May 2001

Dear FANA Parents and Friends,

We have many exciting activities and accomplishments to share with you in this update

Website Launched

Fanafriendsdc.org is officially available on the web! Thanks to the diligent efforts of our webmaster who is also a FANA parent, Friends of FANA has launched its own website. The site provides information about FANA, about Colombian educational and cultural activities in the Washington, D.C. area, and information on Friends of FANA events. Links are available to adoption groups, the Colombian Embassy, other Friends groups, and sources of information on Colombia. We hope to reach not only FANA parents and friends but also individuals considering Colombian adoption. Please check out our site and send any comments or suggestions you have to info@fanafriendsdc.org.

Colombian Embassy Mailing List

The Colombian Embassy in Washington is collecting names to add to its mailing list for notice of upcoming Colombian events, primarily in the D.C. area. If you would like to be added to that list, please send a request with the following words: "We give permission to the Barker Foundation to forward our name, address, and phone number (optional) to the Colombian Embassy for purposes of being added to their mailing list." Follow this with your name, address, and phone number. Please send your request to Maureen Evans, Barker Foundation, at mevans@Barkerfoundation.org, or via mail to The Barker Foundation, 7945 MacArthur Blvd., Suite 206, Cabin John, MD 20818.

Fundraising Results

Thanks to the many of you who contributed to our Fall 2000 fundraising campaign for FANA. Your generosity allowed us to present a check to FANA for over $57,500 to be used to pay extraordinary medical bills for children currently under FANA's care. Elena and Cesar Lopez, Mercedes' daughter and son-in-law, were on hand at the Friends of FANA Carnival celebration in February to accept the check on FANA's behalf. Over 120 people attended the party, which included entertainment by a Colombian dance troupe and singers. Thank you to all who participated.

FANA 30th Anniversary Celebration

FANA will celebrate its 30th anniversary next February with a weekend of festivities and celebrations in Bogota. Several Friends of FANA committee members are planning to attend. There may be a second celebration in August for those who cannot travel during the winter. Any interested families are welcome to participate in the Bogota celebration. Information about the anniversary will be posted on the Friends of FANA website when available.

Friends of FANA is planning a celebration in the Washington, D.C. area in late February for those who cannot travel to Bogota. Please watch for future announcements. If you want to help, please contact info@fanafriendsdc.org.

Update Our Mailing List

Friends of FANA periodically sends out updates and reminders via email. It saves us money and gets the information to you in a timely fashion. If you would like to be on the email list (or if your email has changed recently), please send an updated email address to fanafriendsdc@home.com.

FANA Store on the Web

A new FANA "store" is available on the web. Check out cafepress.com/fanawny.
The merchandise includes mugs and T-shirts. The store is sponsored by Friends of FANA, Western New York. Proceeds from the site go to FANA.

Have a wonderful summer!
