History

Friends of FANA began as a committee of interested parents under the auspices of The Barker Foundation. The mission then was very much the same as it is now – to provide for cultural and educational opportunities for our families as well as to provide support to the orphanage in Bogotá. All of those initial families had adopted from FANA. Today, our membership has expanded to include family members, friends, adoptees themselves, and people with a professional or personal interest in Colombian adoption.

Incorporation

Friends of FANA was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2001 and received IRS 501 c(3) charitable status in the spring of 2002. The organization is run by board of directors who are elected to two-year terms.  Officers of the Board are elected annually. Directors are required to be members in good standing, but are not required to be adoptive parents.
